Please be advised that the WFPS Run events have been cancelled due to safety concerns.
In its seven seasons of running, the Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Services (WFPS) run has never been called off due to a weather concern. With last weeks storm damaging snow, and many downed trees and power lines along the race course The City of Winnipeg has recommended we cancel the event on Sunday, October 20th, 2019 and we have followed their recommendation. Please trust that we have tried everything within our power to make the 8th Annual WFPS Run take place.
“Safety is our first priority for our participants and volunteers”, states Race
Director Jonathan Torchia. “We have been working very close with the City of Winnipeg since the storm hit last week. While this decision was not an easy one to make, we know we have to do what’s best for our community.”
Since its inception, the WFPS Run Half Marathon 10K 5K events have raised over $350,000 for the Heart & Stroke Foundation with over 22,000 participants and 3,500 volunteers.
Runners will be able to take part in a virtual run at their own pace and day with more details to come at a later date. Medals and race kits will be made available at the Canadian Mennonite Museum (CMU) from October 18th, 2019 (9:00am – 7:00pm) to October 19th, 2019 (9:00am – 7:00pm). The shake out run scheduled for Saturday, October 18th, 2019 has also been cancelled due to safety concerns.
We want to thank our sponsors, our volunteers, and all the runners for their continuing support.
