MRA Track Club Winter Session: Run Faster & Incur Fewer Injuries

Did you know that by simply learning some of the basic fundamentals of running, along with a proper warm-up, you can become a faster runner and incur fewer injuries??

The MRA, in association with Athletics Manitoba (AM), has developed a program of workouts specifically designed for road runners, whether you’re new to the sport or have been training and racing for years.

The workouts will be held once a week on Wednesdays 7:00-8:30pm at the James Daly Fieldhouse, Max Bell Track (U of M) starting January 4th until April 5th, 2023. Clinicians will be Calvin Reimer and Noel Kendle, middle distance specialists with the U of M Bison Track Team.

Workouts will be tailored to your current level of training. Some of the topics that will be covered are:

  • what is a good warm-up and why is it important?
  • running mechanics
  • speed workouts
  • at-home injury prevention, and more!

Each session will build on the last one, with the goal of developing both speed and strength over the span of the program.

Patricia Roney and Alain Goguen have also offered to provide participants with some specific and targeted strength sessions following the workout. The goals of these sessions would include injury prevention and improving performance through strength, balancing out muscles that aren’t used in running, working on mobility, etc to become better athletes and better physically for life in general, all while being safe and having fun!

I will be posting their Strength & Conditioning exercises here:
