Repairing Your Active Body, the Right Way

by Paul Bodnarchuk,

As a casual runner, competitive runner or anywhere in between, you want to protect and repair your body so you can perform your best. Supporting your body with key supplements such as collagen (to support joint health) and probiotics (to promote better immunity) can be helpful.

Joint Support

You’re committed to living an active and healthy lifestyle. But lo and behold, just as you’re getting ready for your next run, your joints start acting up … and your knees? The cracks are getting louder.

Joint pain is one of the most common complaints from high-performance athletes. In fact, the number one complaint runners, cyclists, and swimmers have is knee pain and arthritis symptoms.  In a 24-week study on the use of collagen hydrolysate as a supplement in athletes with activity-related joint pain it was found that “athletes consuming collagen hydrolysate can reduce parameters (such as pain) that have a negative impact on athletic performance”.

Supplementing with a high-quality collagen can make a world of difference when it comes to mending and repairing your active body so you can run, bend, lift and stretch with ease. This is because collagen is the structural protein that supports connective tissue formation in the joints, bones, and cartilage.

Progressive Complete Collagen™ contains non-GMO hydrolyzed collagen from pasture-raised, grass-fed cattle that is free of both antibiotics and added hormones. Each scoop provides 10 g of collagen along with 100% of the RDA of Vitamin C (for its role in collagen formation), as well as 100 mg of L-Tryptophan (an essential amino acid that collagen doesn’t contain).

Gut Support

When your gut is out of balance, your immunity can become compromised. You may experience bloating and gas, food sensitivities, and may frequently fall sick. In a recent article it was noted that, “Dysbiosis of the gut bacteria communities in patients or animal models may cause allergy, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), obesity, diabetes, and even cancer.”

The last thing you want is to feel sick before or during a run. Rejuvenate and restore your gut health with Progressive Perfect Probiotics™ so you can stay healthy year-round. Perfect Probiotics™ are designed for ongoing daily gut health. Once ingested, probiotics make their way through the body and into the gastrointestinal (GI) tract where they then begin to colonize and improve intestinal health by optimizing digestion of food and absorption of nutrients.

Tip: Collagen is a wonderful complement to probiotics. It contains a wide variety of amino acids that support the production of bile and stomach acid while also promoting liver detoxification. This is especially useful for those dealing with digestive disorders like leaky gut and GERD (Gastroesophageal reflux disease).

To purchase Complete Collagen™ or Perfect Probiotics™ by Progressive, visit your local Popeye’s – Canada’s Sports Nutrition Leader Coast to Coast. All products are available at any Popeye’s location in Winnipeg and Brandon.
