It emerged from the success of the “Run With Rob” event in May 2023\, where Rob Tétrault accomplished an extraordinary feat by running 506 kilometres (in just 12 days!) from the Saskatchewan-Manitoba border to the Manitoba-Ontario border. This remarkable endeavour aimed to raise awareness for congenital Cytomegalovirus (CMV)\, the leading cause of infant disability in Canada. \nThe overwhelming support received during Run With Rob moved the organizers deeply. In response to the outpouring of encouragement\, they decided to rename the leg of the run that passed through Winnipeg as the CMV Canada Half Marathon and host an annual event. This change allows them to sustain their mission of raising awareness about CMV and generating funds for the Canadian CMV Foundation. Be a part of this meaningful cause – join us at the CMV Canada Half Marathon! \nCause Information: CMV Canada\, officially known as the Canadian CMV Foundation\, is a national charity dedicated to preventing congenital CMV infections and enhancing the well-being of those impacted across Canada. Paul was a beloved friend\, coworker\, and family member to countless people and we plan to honour his memory with an annual 5K event. He was an avid runner\, completing the Chicago Marathon 3 times\, the Boston Marathon twice\, and a half Ironman in Chattanooga. Paul was an incredibly talented and hard working runner\, accomplishing the incredible feat of a sub-3 hour marathon on his first attempt\, and completed all 5 of his marathons with sub-3 hour finish times. He aspired to complete the 6 global major marathons and intended to compete in the Boston Marathon annually. Seeing his loved ones commemorate him in this way would mean a lot to him.\n\n\nThe proceeds from the event will be used to fund an annual scholarship for the department of Pathology\, where Paul worked and won a prestigious teaching award as the educator of the year. The remaining funds will be donated to various causes which were near and dear to Paul’s heart. A post-race event will be held featuring a beer created specifically for this event. We believe that an event combining fitness\, camaraderie\, and the outdoors is a perfect way to remember Paul\, and we hope to see you all there.

Their daughters\, Sophie and Acacia Goertzen both worked at RRBC over several summers in various capacities\, but the most meaningful times were those spent with children who just needed a friend. The Campership Fund helps children and youth from low-income households or with financial barriers attend summer camp.
