MRA Hall of Fame

In 2006, the Manitoba Runners’ Association celebrated its 35th Anniversary by establishing the MRA Hall of Fame. Each year, inductees are celebrated at the MRA Annual Hall of Fame Banquet. The next time you are downtown, visit the 2nd floor of the Winnipeg Convention Centre to view the MRA Hall of Fame plaque and celebrate the athletes, volunteers and running clubs who have raised the profile of running in Manitoba .

Selection Criteria

On an annual basis at their Spring Hall of Fame Banquet the Manitoba Runners’ Association will recognize worthy Manitoba Athletes, Builders, or Running Clubs who have had a significant impact on the Manitoba road running scene by inducting them into the Manitoba Runners’ Association Hall of Fame. The following are the procedures and criteria for the Manitoba Runners’ Hall of Fame:

  • Nominations to the Hall of Fame must be made by members in good standing of the Manitoba Runners’ Association.
  • Nominees must have been born in the Province of Manitoba or contributed to the sport of road running while a full time resident of the Province of Manitoba.
  • Nominations must be submitted in writing on the official Nomination Form by midnight on January 31st of each year. Nominations will be valid for 3 years; therefore if a nominee is unsuccessful for induction in their first year their name will stand for consideration for 2 consecutive years thereafter.
  • There will be a maximum of 5 people/clubs inducted into the Manitoba Road Runners’ Hall of Fame each year in one of 3 categories: Athlete, Builder and Running Club. The induction ceremony will take place each year at the Spring Hall of Fame Banquet.
  • A committee comprised of a chair and a maximum of 4 members in good standing of the Manitoba Runners’ Association as approved by the board of the Manitoba Runners’ Association shall review and select the induction class each year. A minimum of 1 committee member must be from the board of the Manitoba Runners’ Association.
  • The selection meeting shall be held in February. It is mandatory that the chair and voting committee members attend this selection meeting.

Nominations to the Hall of Fame must be made by members in good standing and must be submitted by midnight on January 31st of each year.

There shall be three categories of Induction:

Athlete Award:

Purpose: To recognize the achievements of outstanding road runners.

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Have represented the sport of road running with distinction in road running competitions either in or out of Manitoba, and brought great credit to the sport.
  2. Have compiled an outstanding record which extends over a period of years in the sport of road running.
  3. Manitoba born or a Manitoba resident during the period for which outstanding performance is claimed.

Builder Award:

Purpose: To formally recognize the contribution, leadership and abilities of those individuals who have participated in the development of road running in the Province of Manitoba.

Eligibility Requirements: 

  1. Demonstrated outstanding service to road running.
  2. Demonstrated leadership in the road running community
  3. Open to any individual serving road running:
    • coach, trainer, media, volunteer
    • administrator, manager, official/referee etc.
  4. Manitoba born or a Manitoba resident during the period for which the outstanding contribution is claimed.

Running Club:

Purpose: To formally recognize the outstanding accomplishments and/or contributions of the members of a club to the road running community in Manitoba.

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Demonstrated outstanding service to road running.
  2. Established in Manitoba to benefit Manitoba’s road running community.
